New Weight Training Routine - Setting My Goals

I've been lifting weights for a few years now, and I've always been a fan of keeping a weightlifting journal. Almost every body building and fitness magazine offers the same advice.

Keeping a journal can:

  • keep you aware of how much and how hard you exercise
  • help you maintain a goal and track your progress

In the past, I have kept records of my workout routines, the amount of weight I used, and random notes to help me attain my goals. My journal has been a great tool, and you'll continue to see me at the gym taking diligent notes.

So what's the problem? No one has been holding me accountable. If I don't get to the gym more than once a week, who actually knows? If I puss out on a set, who's there to call me out? I need accountability.

Starting today, I am going to use this blog to track my weight training goals. I want everyone to know where my progress stands, and I welcome any feedback I get.

While it's about two months late, here are my 2008 new year's resolutions:

  • Since I am getting married May 23, I want to be in the best shape of my life. My goal is to get six-pack abs by the wedding. (I'll post pictures to keep myself honest).
  • I am going to get my personal training certification this year.
  • I participated in the 2008 Miami Half-Marathon in January, but I didn't run the whole thing. My goal is to participate in another half-marathon this year and run the whole thing.

I'm going to make 2008 my fittest year yet. Stay tuned to hear about my progress.
